Semi-Truck Windshield Replacement & Heavy Equipment Glass

Semi-truck windshield replacement is the removal of a cracked or broken windshield from a tractor-trailer cab and the installation of new glass, sealed to the cab so it supports the structure and keeps weather out. Jiffy Auto Glass replaces windshields on semi-trucks, Class 8 trucks and all types of heavy-duty commercial vehicles, plus glass on heavy equipment and farm equipment, usually right where the vehicle is located. We’re an auto glass shop in Wheat Ridge serving the Colorado Front Range, and mobile service is free.

What Is Semi-Truck Windshield Replacement?

A semi-truck windshield is large laminated glass that protects driver visibility at highway speeds and adds to the structural integrity of the cab. Replacing it means cutting out the old glass, surface preparation of the frame, and setting the new windshield in the right position so it seals evenly.

Why a Cracked Truck Windshield Can't Wait

A crack in a big windshield rarely stays put. Road vibration, wind pressure at highway speeds and Colorado’s temperature shifts all push it longer, and edge cracks travel fastest. Glass that’s cracked through or pulling away from its seal can let in water leaks and loses windshield integrity. For truck drivers on tight delivery schedules, that means a truck that can’t leave the yard. If your truck has a camera behind the glass, a crack in front of the lens can interfere with its electronic systems, including collision warning.

Can You Drive a Semi With a Cracked Windshield?

It depends on where the damage is. The federal rule for commercial motor vehicles, 49 CFR 393.60, says the windshield must be free of damage in the area above the top of the steering wheel, apart from a 2-inch border at the top and a 1-inch border at each side. Inside that area it allows cracks that aren’t intersected by other cracks, and damage that a 3/4-inch disc can cover if it’s at least 3 inches from other damage.

Inspectors apply this rule during DOT inspections and other safety inspections. This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice, so check the current rule and ask your inspector about your specific damage.

Semi Truck Windshield Repair or Replacement?

You'll likely need replacement if

  • A crack runs into the area the driver looks through
  • More than one crack meets, or there are multiple impact points
  • The glass is shattered or shows delamination, or the edge is cracked or pulling away (windshield seal failure)

A repair may be possible if

  • It's a single small stone chip, star break or bullseye break away from other damage

Semi-truck windshield replacement

What it is: Every semi-truck windshield is matched to your truck's windshield configuration, with OEM-grade glass. Our trained technicians handle safe glass removal, surface preparation and adhesion, and correct alignment on the mounting points, so the seal is even all the way around.

Commercial truck windshield replacement

What it is: Truck windshield replacement for box-style work trucks and other heavy trucks follows the same process, with the same proper sealing.

ADAS camera calibration for trucks

What it is: Many newer trucks carry cameras and sensors behind the windshield for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems such as collision mitigation. After a new windshield, the camera is re-aimed to manufacturer specifications. We do ADAS calibration in-house, static and dynamic.

Heavy equipment glass

What it is: Cab glass on heavy equipment, replaced where the machine is working. Send the make, model and serial number with a photo so we can identify the glass.

Farm equipment glass

What it is: Glass on farm equipment, replaced on the farm so the machine stays where it's needed.

How Much Does Semi-Truck Windshield Replacement Cost?

Replacement cost depends on:

  • The glass: the windshield part for your truck’s make, model and year
  • Installation method: a rubber gasket install or a high-strength polyurethane glue-in with urethane seals
  • Cameras and sensors: whether calibration is needed after the install
  • Glass availability: stocked or ordered for your truck
  • Damage: edge cracks, combination breaks and long cracks usually mean replacement

Semi-Truck Windshield Replacement FAQs

How much does it cost to replace a semi-truck windshield?

Windshield replacement cost depends on the glass for your truck’s make, model and year, how it’s installed, whether a camera needs calibration, and glass availability. We quote by VIN before work starts.

Can I drive a semi with a cracked windshield?

It depends on the crack. Under 49 CFR 393.60, the area above the steering wheel must be free of damage, except cracks not intersected by other cracks, or damage a 3/4-inch disc covers that’s 3 inches from other damage. Check the current rule with your inspector.

Do you replace semi-truck windshields where the truck is parked?

Yes, usually. Most of our semi-truck and heavy equipment work is done where the vehicle is located, such as your yard, job site or farm in the Colorado Front Range, and mobile service is free.

Do you replace semi-truck windshields?

Yes. Not every auto glass shop works on large truck glass, but Jiffy Auto Glass replaces windshields on semi-trucks, Class 8 trucks and all types of work trucks, and calibrates the windshield camera in-house.

Does my truck need camera calibration after a new windshield?

If there’s a forward camera behind the windshield, usually yes, because new glass shifts its view slightly. We do ADAS calibration in-house, static and dynamic, and check what your truck needs when we quote.

Do you work on heavy equipment and farm equipment?

Yes. We replace glass on all types of heavy equipment and farm equipment, usually where the machine is working.

When can my truck drive after a new windshield?

After the adhesive has cured enough for safe driving. Cure time depends on the adhesive and the weather, so the technician gives you a drive-away time for your truck before leaving.

Do I need a fleet account to get a semi windshield replaced?

No. Single trucks are welcome. Fleet managers can open an account with no minimum size, on terms with a card or ACH on file, and we work with most major fleet management companies. See Commercial & Fleet for details.
